- 6 athletes with 1 coach.
- Prerequisites: Completion of Stage 2 (unless age 14 or older). Easily completing all level 2’s and some 3’s bouldering, and all autobelays.
After completing two to four terms, athletes should be easily completing all 3’s and some 4’s bouldering, and 5.10+’s on top rope.
- General: safe training, reading/sequencing routes, projecting, onsighting.
- A focus on top roping safety and gaining confidence.
- Footwork: smearing/flagging, high foot, heel/toe hooks, rockover, backstep, balance.
- Body Positioning: using hips/cneter of gravity, body tension, how to use holds, resting, mantle, lockoffs, skill application on overhang.
- Body Awareness: intentional moving/ targeting on overhang, dynamic movement, climbing posture, dynamic movement on overhang.
- Mental and Physical Stamina: heights, endurance, strength and projecting on top rope.
- Light and simple exercise drills to teach movement, form, and build general fitness.
This curriculum is an outline of the skills taught in one or two terms, and we expect athletes to attend two to four termsto develop and become confident in all skill areas before moving into the next stage.
Fitness Fact: It takes approximately 40 hours of practise to turn a movement skill into a habit.
After completing two to four terms, athletes should be easily completing all 3’s and some 4’s bouldering, and 5.10+’s on top rope. All athletes will be given a report card at the end of each term to track their progress.
